What Japanese TV programming can I watch in Australia or New Zealand?

From PanAmSat-8 Satellite you can view NHK WORLD TELEVISION from Japan for currently 18hrs per day (2200UTC to 1500UTC next day) - starting 1st April, 1998. Also NHK WORLD PREMIUM which is a subscription service using a Scientific Atlanta D9234 IRD.

How much will this cost?

A Suitable Digital Hardware Package for the NHK World TV costs NZ$1,999.00 plus GST & (FOB Palm Nth) Freight. There are currently NO on going costs to view NHK World TV in an domestic environment. A 3.0m dish is required in NZ while a 2.5m could be used in Australia. The Equipment package includes a Benjamin Digital Receiver, a Chaparral 20K MicroPak, SX-10-Fixed (3m) Orbitron Dish and cabling. Note: the Antenna may be supplied ex factory, USA. This offer is for a limited time only.

For receiving the JETTV & NHK PREMIUM services a Scientific Atlanta Digital Decoder and a 3m dish is required - all other items are as above. The cost for this package is NZ$4,300 plus GST & Freight.

Applications forms for NHK are available from Telsat® Communications Ltd - these must be completed and approved by NHK before a Decoder can be supplied. The monthly subscription fee is 3,000yen payable in advance.
