Palmerston North is New Zealand's 'Knowledge City' with several knowledge organisations such as Massey University, the New Zealand Dairy Research Institute and Crown Research Institutes as well as the Linton Military Camp and the Air Force Strike base at Ohakea contributing to a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Palmerston North and the Manawatu are home to an array of activities and attractions. An interactive Science Centre and Manawatu Museum, Art Galleries, live theatre. New Zealand's most successful multiplex cinema, the "Regent on Broadway", four golf courses, parks and walkways, the southern hemisphere's largest wind farm, trout fishing, indoor climbing and karting ... just a sample of those on offer!

Shopping to rival that found anywhere else in New Zealand awaits the serious 'retail therapist' whilst connoisseurs of fine food, a good expresso or a great nightlife will find themselves spoilt for choice from the tasty smorgasbord of restaurants, cafes, and bars.

Palmerston North enjoys a temperate climate and visitors to the city in July can expect crisp frosty mornings followed by a clear day, but occasionally the southerly may bring significant rain. Temperatures range from lows of 2'C overnight to highs of 15'C during the day.
